The 1876-CC is the final Type Two double eagle produced at the Carson City mint. It is typically seen in EF40-AU53 grades and has become hard to find above this.

This example has a slightly prooflike obverse and a frosty reverse; both sides show light orange-gold color. In terms of detail, this piece looks like an AU55 or 58 but there are a few small marks in the obverse fields and a light old scratch between stars twelve and thirteen on the obverse.

The last AU53 to sell at auction was an NGC/CAC coin, offered as Stacks Bowers 7/13: 5357, that brought $4,134.

As with all CC double eagles, examples of this quality and in this price range are becoming very hard to find.
