The 1876-CC is numismatically significant as the final Type Two double eagle from the Carson City mint. It is the second most available CC Type Two issue after the 1875-CC and while often available in the AU grades, it is not seen much anymore with natural color and surfaces.
This attractive example shows deep, even orange-gold hues with some darker contrast on the relief details. Both sides retain a good deal of luster and were it not for some scattered scuffs in the obverse fields, I could see this coin in an AU58 holder.
Heritage 2/14: 4859 sold for $5,288 and it was not approved by CAC. Heritage 8/13: 5227 sold for $6,467 and it was approved by CAC.
All choice, original CC double eagles, regardless of date, are becoming very hard to find and this 1876-CC has really good eye appeal for the grade.
CAC has approved 13 in this grade with 45 finer.
