The 1876-CC is one of the two most available Type Two CC double eagles and this makes it popular with type collectors. It is available in the lower to middle AU grades but it is often seen with baggy surfaces and bright, processed fields.
This example has rich green-gold and reddish-orange hues. It is well struck with a somewhat beveled edge as seen on many 1876-CC double eagles. There are a few very faint mint-made planchet streaks on the obverse and a few marks in the left obverse field which limit the grade.
Two non-CAC NGC AU53 examples have sold this year; one brought $4,700 in February while the other realized $4,553 in January.
