The 1875-CC is the most common Type Two double eagle from the Carson City mint. It is easily found in all circulated grades and sometimes in MS60. It becomes hard to locate in MS61 to MS62, rare in MS63 and extremely rare above this.
This is a very choice coin for the grade with clean, frosty surfaces and strong rose and medium-gold colors on both sides. There are a few light scuffs in the fields but nothing major is visible save for a shallow cut on the cheek of Liberty. There is no friction seen on the face or fields and this is a truly “new” coin which never saw circulation.
The last MS61 to sell at auction was a non-CAC coin graded by NGC which brought $11,763 as Heritage 8/13: 5917. A non-CAC MS61+ sold for $17,625 as Heritage 4/13: 6014.
This is a perfect coin for the type collector who would like to own a single high quality Type Two double eagle from the famous Carson City mint.
CAC has approved seven in this graded with 17 higher.
