The 1874-CC is one of the true condition rarities in the Carson City double eagle series. It is common in EF40 to AU53 grades and only marginally scarce in AU55 but it is very scarce in properly graded AU58 and quite are in Uncirculated.
This nice slider example shows golden-yellow color with light rub on the relief and a majority off the natural mint luster. There are some scattered shallow marks in the fields but this is a really pleasing coin with the best eye appeal I have seen on this date in some time.
An especially nice NGC AU58 with CAC approval just sold for $19,975 as Heritage 1/14: 7130.
If available, an Uncirculated 1874-CC double eagle would cost in excess of $30,000/ This makes this nice AU58 seem like a good value for the savvy CC double eagle collector.
CAC has approved six in this grade with just two finer.
