While not really scarce, the 1870-S is not a date that you see every day. In the higher AU grades, it is harder to locate than the 1868-S and 1869-S and it is considerably scarcer than the 1871-S and the 1872-S.
This is a nice piece which was recently repatriated from Europe and it shows rich natural rose and green-gold color. There is some luster remaining and the surfaces lack any severe marks. The eye appeal is clearly above average for the date and grade.
At just a small premium over a common date, this nice 1870-S is a good value for the Type Two double eagle collector.
