The 1855-S is the second double eagle struck at the San Francisco mint. The first, the 1854-S, is scarce and expensive so for collectors with an average budget, this is the earliest date they will be able to obtain. The 1855-S is scarce in properly graded AU58 and it is a rare issue in any Uncirculated grade.

This very choice slider shows natural orange-gold and light rose-green hues, in similar configurations, on the obverse and reverse. It is frosty and lightly worn and has just a few small ticks scattered about the fields. The eye appeal is excellent.
