FS-301. Early die state with all four numerals clearly doubled at their peaks.
The 1852/1852 is now recognized by both grading services. It is an impressive die variety which is clearly visible with light magnification. It is scarce in AU55, rare in AU58 and very rare in full Uncirculated.
This is a choice, totally original coin with natural russet color which is contrasted by darker highlights. There is a good deal of luster on both sides and the fields are extremely clean with no marks of note.
A non-CAC NGC AU55 1852/1852 double eagle realized $4,113 as Lot 4057 in the Heritage 2014 ANA auction.
A choice, attractive coin which deserves to be collected alongside the regular 1852 double eagle.
CAC doesn’t designate how many of the 22 1852 double eagles which they have approved in AU55 are the 1852/1852.
