The 1857-O is numismatically significant as the final No Motto half eagle struck at this mint. New Orleans would not strike this denomination again until 1892. The 1857-O has a mintage of just 13,000. It is of similar overall rarity to the 1855-O and 1856-O. All three issues are not easy to locate above EF40 and are seldom found with natural color and surfaces.

This sharply struck example shows good overall detail with medium orange-gold color on both sides. There are a number of small ticks in the fields which limit the grade but the eye appeal is good for the date.

There has been only one PCGS EF45 1857-O half eagle that has sold at auction in more than a decade. Stacks Bowers 8/11: 9427 brought $2,185.

I love the level of value which most of the No Motto New Orleans half eagles offer and, in comparison to comparably dated Charlotte and Dahlonega issues, these pieces are rarely offered for sale.
