The 1852-D is one of the more common half eagles from this mint. It is generally seen in EF40 to AU50 grades and it is an issue which is notable for irregular striking details and a bright, processed appearance. Choice, original pieces are scarce.
This is as choice an example for the grade as one is likely to find with deep even green-gold color and a good amount of dirt lodged in the recesses, especially on the reverse. There is a small PVC spot lodged below the bun while the fields are extremely clean.
The last PCGS EF45 example of this date to sell at auction was Heritage 1/13: 7174; this coin was not approved by CAC.
Dahlonega half eagles of this quality, regardless of date, are hard to locate.
CAC has approved five in this grade with 10 finer.
