The 1852-D is among the more available half eagles from this mint but it is much more difficult to locate than the 1853-D or 1854-D. It is hard to find in the mid AU range with natural color, choice surfaces and good detail.
This is a textbook example of what an original piece of Dahlonega gold should look like. Both sides show lovely deep russet colors which change to a deeper reddish hue in the fields. The surfaces are choice, the detail s excellent and the overall level of eye appeal is superior to most Dahlonega half eagles in AU55 holders.
No CAC approved 1852-D half eagle in this grade has sold at auction in recent years. Typical quality AU53 1852-D half eagles typically sell in the $2,750-3,250 range.
A perfect type coin for the collector who would like to own a choice, affordable half eagle from this mint.
