Variety 1.

The 1852-C is one of the most available half eagles from this mint which makes it perfect for use as a type coin. As with all southern branch mint gold from this era, it has become hard to locate examples with natural color and choice surfaces.

This is a solid coin for the grade with good overall detail and attractive russet color which shades to reddish-gold at the borders. There are some marks on the surfaces which limit the grade but none are deep or problematic. The eye appeal is excellent.

The last CAC approved EF40 example of this date to sell at auction was a PCGS coin offered as Goldberg 2/12: 1534; it realized $2,300.

Here is a perfect Charlotte type coin for the collector looking for a nice half eagle from this facility.

CAC has approved two in this grade with 21 finer.
