The 1849-C is among the more common half eagles from this mint, making it the perfect issue for the collector who is seeking a single choice example of this type.

This is one of the crustiest, most original EF45 Charlotte half eagles that I have handled. It displays very deep green-gold color on the obverse and reverse with plenty of dirt in the recesses on both sides. The underlying surfaces retain some luster and are choice. Most dealers would crack this coin out, send it to NGC and sell it in a 53 holder.

Heritage 3/13: 4227 brought $2,350. It was PCGS graded EF45 and approved by CAC but not even close in terms of quality to the present example.
