The 1844-O is far and away the most available No Motto New Orleans half eagle in higher grades. But it is not easily found in MS61 and even less often with natural color and choice surfaces.
This well struck and fresh example shows beautiful deep green-gold colors over slightly reflective surfaced. The fields lack any marks of note and what appears to be ticks on the reverse are actually raised die lumps from rust. The eye appeal seen on this coin rivals others I have seen in MS62 and even MS63 holders.
The last PCGS MS61 1844-O half eagle to sell at auction was a non-CAC piece which brought $4,600 as Heritage 1/12: 6346.
This coin is perfect for the type collector who would like to own one single Mint State half eagle of the No Motto type.
CAC has approved two in this grade with seven finer.
