LOVELY 1808 HALF EAGLE

BD-4, R-3. Wide 5D.

The 1808 is a common date within the Capped Bust Left type of 1807-1812. It is seen from time to time in MS62 and higher grades but it is doubtful if even 10% of the ones in these holders are choice and original.

This choice, fresh-to-the-market example is extremely high end for the grade and were it not for a few wispy lines in the left obverse field, I believe it would have graded MS63. The surfaces are free of marks and are very frosty with lovely natural butter-yellow toning on either side. The strike is razor sharp and the eye appeal is far above average for the issue. This would make an absolutely ideal type coin.

Only two PCGS MS62 examples have been auctioned since the Summer of 2013 and neither was approved by CAC.

I really like the quality and appearance of this grade and I feel it is a better looking coin than many non-CAC MS63 Capped Bust Left half eagles which I see in the market.

CAC has approved only two in this grade with seven finer.
