The 1803/2 is among the more available Capped Bust Right half eagles. It is available in grades up to MS62 but it becomes scarce in MS63 and is rare above this. It is a popular issue with collectors due to the readily visible nature of the overdate.
This choice slider has the appearance of an MS61 to MS62 coin but close inspection shows minor rub on the obverse high spots. The surfaces are clean and very lustrous with nice even yellow-gold color.
Stacks Bowers sold a nice PCGS AU58 example with CAC approval for $15,275 as 7/15: 5217. An NGC AU58 with CAC approval brought $12,925 as Heritage 3/15: 3223.
In my opinion, this coin is nicer than most low-end Uncirculated pieces I see and it offers good value to the savvy type collector or early gold specialist.
CAC has approved 23 in this grade with 35 finer.
