The 1915-S is the second to last half eagle from this mint and it is a true condition rarity with examples not often seen finer than MS62. Examples have been found in Europe in recent years but most are scuffy and dirty with poor overall eye appeal.
This fresh-to-the-market example, along with the MS63 which follows, were recently discovered domestically, sent to PCGS and then approved by CAC. Both coins are exceptional for the date and grade with lovely light green-gold color, excellent luster and choice, unmarked surfaces. This MS62 has better eye appeal than many 1915-S half eagles I have seen in MS63 holders.
The last example of this date to sell at auction in PCGS MS62 with CAC approval brought $8,225 as Heritage 6/13: 4793.
Good value in comparison to higher grade examples of this issue and one of the best MS62 S mint five Indians I have seen in some time, regardless of date.
CAC has approved 14 in this grade with nine finer.
