The 1894-O is the second scarcest of three With Motto half eagles from this mint. It is scarce in properly graded MS61 to MS62, very rare in MS63 and essentially unknown finer.
This is a choice, frosty example with natural medium orange-gold and rose color. It has fewer abrasions than normal for the date and grade and I have seen inferior 1894-O half eagles in MS62 holders.
The only PCGS MS61 1894-O half eagle to sell at auction since 2012 brought $1,888 as Heritage 7/14: 4624; it was not approved by CAC and no CAC stickered MS61 has yet to cross the auction block.
Great value and nice enough for most New Orleans half eagle sets.
CAC has approved five in this grade with only two finer (both MS62).
