The 1882-CC is the most available Carson City half eagle from this decade. It is easy to find in any circulated grades but it is quite scarce in Uncirculated. There are around 15 or so known in Uncirculated with most in the MS60 to MS61 range.

This is a very pleasing and totally natural example with nice natural yellow-gold and russet hues on bot sides. This coin has never been processed or lightened and it exhibits good mint frost with full cartwheel luster. There is a small obverse mark outside of star nine and a few ticks below the motto on the reverse which limit the grade. The eye appeal is excellent and this is one of the most cosmetically appealing 1882-CC half eagles which I have ever seen.

There have been five auction records for this date in PCGS MS61 since the beginning of 2007 with a high of $21,850 and a low of $8,813. A record of $16,100 for another PCGS MS61 dates from January 2009.

This is the only 1882-CC half eagle in MS61 to have been approved by CAC and no finer pieces have been approved to date.

An impressive and important coin for the sophisticated collector of Carson City gold coinage.

Ex Heritage 3/13: 4246, where it sold for $8,813.
