Only 3,488 business strike examples of this date were produced. There are likely fewer than 100 known with most in the EF40 to AU50 range. In the higher AU range, this date is quite rare as evidenced by the PCGS population of just four graded. There are an estimated four to six known in Uncirculated with the finest a single MS64 graded by PCGS.
This mostly prooflike example has no real wear but just a few too many shallow scuffs in the fields to call Mint State. It shows pleasing russet and rose colors and is very well detailed with sharp centers and borders.
Heritage 7/12: 4897, graded AU58 by PCGS and approved by CAC, sold for $6,325. In my opinion, the current example is a nicer coin.
An excellent value for the money as this is a decidedly above-average example of a truly scarce date.
CAC has approved three in this grade with none finer.
