The 1821 quarter is a scarce, underappreciated date that is typically seen in lower grades. When found in EF and the lower AU range, examples tend to be unattractive with surface issues and unappealing color.
This fresh-to-the-market example shows deep gunmetal color with a splash of rich lilac at the central obverse and some green hues at the borders; the highlights are a bit lighter in hue. There is a good deal of underlying mint luster and the surfaces are mostly free of prominent marks.
No EF45 1821 quarters have sold at auction since the end of 2011. The last EF45 with CAC approval was a PCGS coin which brought $1,762 as Heritage 1/11: 3392.
A really attractive coin which needs to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
CAC has approved four in this grade with 11 finer.
