Well made and very frosty with splashes of deep orange-gold color which is somewhat deeper in hue on the reverse than on the obverse. A few ticks in the fields limit the grade but this is a choice, wholesome piece with excellent detail and a pleasing appearance. The 1851-C is by far the most available gold dollar from this mint and as many as 125-175 exist in Uncirculated. It is not easily found in properly graded MS62 and above this, the 1851-C dollar is a rare coin. The most recent auction frecord for a PCGS MS62 is Heritage 8/12: 4390, that realized $4,994. If you are searching for a choice Charlotte gold dollar for type purposes and your budget is in the $4,000-5,000 range, you won’t find a more pleasing example than this!
