RARE 1872-CC QUARTER DOLLAR
The 1872-CC quarter is a scarce date in all grades with an estimated 100-150+ known, mostly in the AG-Fine range. The majority of the collector grade examples I have seen could just as easily have "no graded" as they show rough planchets and numerous signs of circulation or numismatic abuse.
This is an absolutely perfect coin for the grade with natural lilac-grey color over very smooth, hard surfaces which show an absolute surfeit of marks. The word LIBERTY is more than 75% visible and the obverse grades at least a full VG10; as usual, the reverse is less sharp.
No VG8 1872-CC quarter with CAC approval has sold at auction. A PCGS VG8 with numerous problems brought $1,898 as Heritage 4/10: 656.
A great 1872-CC quarter for the specialist.
CAC has approved three in this grade with four finer.
