A total of 35,600 were struck. The 1860-S is not as scarce as its Civil War counterparts from San Francisco but it is a tough coin that is not often seen above AU55 to AU58.
This untoned example is very lustrous and it shows only light wear with a few scuffs on both sides. Below the AM in AMERICA there is a shallow old scratch.
The last two APR’s for the 1860-S quarter eagle in this grade were $1,840 and $2,105 for PCGS examples sold in 2011; none have reached the block in 2012.
