The 1857-O is the final year of issue for quarter eagles from this mint. It is a bit more available than commonly believed, probably due to a small hoard existing at one time. It can be found from time to time in AU58 but many such graded examples have been dipped or show numerous marks.
This piece, housed in an older pre-barcode holder, has very nice color with deep yellow gold hues. Both sides show some light old scratches below the toning which are hard to see without ]magnification.
Heritage 9/13: 5074, graded AU58 by PCGS and not approved by CAC, sold for $1,880. Heritage 8/13: 4983, graded AU58 by PCGS and approved by CAC, sold for $2,585.
