The 1852-O quarter eagle is a date which is comparable in overall and grade rarity to the 1847-O, 1850-O and 1851-O. All of these dates become scarce in properly graded AU58 and are rare in Uncirculated with around a dozen or so known.
This is a “gem slider” with pretty natural orange-gold color and just a touch of friction on the high spots of the obverse; the reverse is choice and grades MS61 to MS62 on its own. The surfaces are clean, the strike is sharp and the overall eye appeal is excellent for the date and grade.
A non-CAC example graded AU58 by PCGS sold for $2,585 as Heritage 6/14: 5586 and it was not nearly as choice as the present example.
CAC has approved 11 in this grade with four finer.
