The 1850-D is probably the most obtainable Dahlonega quarter eagle from this decade but it is scarce in AU55, rare in properly graded AU58 and very rare in Uncirculated. Of the 12,148 struck, there are around 175-225 known in all grades. I rank it as the 11th rarest of 20 issues from this mint in higher grades.

This fresh-to-the-market example has some of the crustiest surfaces that I have seen on an 1850-D; a date that is often found bright from dipping. Both the obverse and the reverse show deep, even green-gold and russet shades with a good deal of dirt in the recesses. The strike is exceptionally sharp while the surfaces are very clean with no appreciable marks.

There have been six APR’s for the 1850-D quarter eagle in AU58 since September 2009 with the range going from a low of $4,888 to a high of $6,049.

If you collect Dahlonega quarter eagles by date and you love crusty, original coins, this may be the piece for you!
