The 1847-D is among the more available quarter eagles from this mint. It is found with nice, original color more often than nearly any other Dahlonega issue and this makes it very popular as a type coin.

This is a pleasing, totally original Choice EF with rich honey-gold and russet hues. Both sides are evenly worn although the obverse shows better overall detail for the grade than the reverse. The surfaces are clean and pleasing save for a tiny semi-circular mark on the obverse near star six; the reverse shows natural dirt in the lettering.

The last PCGS EF45 to sell at auction was the comparable Heritage 9/10: 5200 which brought $2,300. There have been just four PCGS EF45′s sold at auction since late 2002.

A great coin for the Dahlonega collector who appreciates originality.
