The 1847-C is by far the most available quarter eagle from this mint. But it is not easy to find in collector grades with choice, original surfaces and natural color.
This is the epitome of a Choice AU example with dark, rich green-gold color and plenty of dirt lodged in the protected areas on both sides. There is some remaining luster and the detail is very sharp at the centers and borders.
Despite a relatively high population in this grade, there has been just one slabbed AU55 at auction since late 2010; Heritage 5/12: 4787 (not approved by CAC) that sold for $2,645.
CAC has approved four in this grade with four finer.
