NICE 1843-C LARGE DATE QUARTER EAGLE
This is the more common of the two varieties made at the Charlotte Mint in 1843. The Large Date is, in fact, one of the more available early dates from this facility and its lack of date premium makes it a sensible issue for use in a type set.
This russet toned example has nice natural color which deepens at the borders. It shows a typical strike for the issue with some weakness at the centers; this should not be confused with wear. The surfaces are lightly abraded with an old vertical scrape along the neck the only thing worthy of mentioning.
Three EF45 1843-C Large Date quarter eagles have sold at auction since late 2014 and, curiously, all have realized $2,115.
An affordable Charlotte quarter eagle which is excellent for the new collector.
