The 1842-C is one of the three or four rarest Liberty Head quarter eagles from this mint and it is the rarest in high grades. It is not often seen above AU50 and most examples, regardless of grade, have very poor eye appeal.

This honestly worn, original example is outstanding for the date and grade. It is well detailed for the issue and it has choice surfaces below even natural medium green-gold color. A small old cut above ES in STATES is barely noticeable.

Only four PCGS EF40 examples of the 1842-C quarter eagle have sold at auction since the beginning of 2004. The last is a non-CAC piece which sold for $2,820 as Heritage 11/12: 4743.

If you collect this series, you know how tough a date the 1842-C is.

CAC has approved this one example in EF40 with five finer.
