VERY RARE PROOF 1872 HALF EAGLE

Only 30 Proof half eagles were struck and around half survive; this number includes a few which are impounded in museum collections as well as one or two which are impaired. The rarity of this date is best expressed by the fact that the Trompeter/Eliasberg example was "only" a PR63.

This piece is entirely fresh to the market and it shows natural hazy russet-gold color indicative of it having never been dipped or brightened. This coin seems really choice for the assigned grade and I feel it is much closer to the 64 level than the "typical" PR63.

There is just one other CAC approved PCGS PR63CAM of this date and it sold for $27,025 as Heritage 1/16: 5594. I feelthat the current example is much nicer and it is clearly more original.

This exceptional coin represents the best available quality for this date at a comparatively modest price and a Gem, if available, would run close to six figures.

CAC has approved 2 in PR63CAM with 1 finer.
