A NICE AU55 1845-O QUARTER EAGLE
Only 4,000 were struck and the 1845-O is the rarest New Orleans quarter eagle by a wide margin. It becomes really hard to locate in the AU55 to AU58 range and just three are known in Uncirculated.
This fresh to the market example is notable for its nice original medium orange-gold color and the very choice surfaces which lack the abrasions and mint-made issues which the 1845-O is known for.
Only one coin graded AU55 has sold since September 2013 and it was a vastly inferior NGC example that realized $8,813 as Goldberg 1/16: 2036.
This is a really pleasing coin and it is an important issue which is always in demand amongst New Orleans gold specialists.
