RARE LARGE D 1843-D QUARTER EAGLE

Variety 4-I; designated by PCGS.

It is believed that 3,537 1843-D quarter eagles (out of the 36,209 struck in all) used the Large D mintmark. This variety is rare and popular and it is included in many comprehensive Dahlonega quarter eagle sets.

This piece is very close to EF40 in terms of its naked-eye appearance and it shows nice color with an almost two-tone look on the obverse.

A vastly inferior PCGS VF35 example of this variety sold for $1,998 as Heritage 2/13: 4747 and it lacked CAC approval.

An affordable yet truly scarce Dahlonega quarter eagle.

CAC has approved one in this grade with just one finer (for the variety).
