RARE GEM 1875-CC MM BELOW BOW DIME WITH CAC APPROVAL
Mintmark Below Bow; designated by PCGS.
There are two distinct varieties of 1875-CC Dimes: those with the mintmark above the bow in the wreath and those with the mintmark below the bow. The below bow is considerably scarcer and this is a legitimately tough issue in MS65.
This frosty white Gem is well struck and it shows just a few small scuffs on the obverse. It has better than usual luster for the issue and great overall eye appeal.
Two different PCGS/CAC MS65 examples have sold at auction. One brought $4,994 as Heritage 9/13: 6313 while the other realized $4,600 as Heritage 7/09: 358.
PCGS has graded just one finer than this and that piece has never appeared at auction.
CAC has approved 5 in this grade with none finer.
