SCARCE UNCIRCULATED 1886 QUARTER EAGLE
Only 4,000 were struck and the 1886 is a moderately scarce issue which is hard to find in grades above the MS62 to MS63 range. Many of the ones I have seen in MS62 holders either have questionable color or they are overabraided.
This fresh-to-the-market example is frosty and choice with natural rose and orange-gold colors. There are a few small ticks in the fields and a small semi-circular scrape on the cheek of Liberty but the overall eye appeal is excellent for the grade.
Five PCGS MS62 coins have sold at auction since the Summer of 2010 and prices have ranged from a low of $1,394 to a high of $1,763; none were approved by CAC.
Good value for the collector who likes low mintage issues.
CAC has approved two with five finer.
