SOLD – $20.00 – 1857-S PCGS MS65 SSCA CAC
SS Central America. Variety 20A, Spiked Shield. SSCA #4962. Housed in the original gold foil label PCGS holder and a Gem with no signs of the surfaces having turned from improper conservation. This frosty, lightly marked Gem has vivid rose centers that are framed by vivid fiery orange-gold hues at the borders.. A few small ticks on the portrait are hard to see without a 5x glass and this coin has exceptional overall eye appeal. In auctions, these SSCA double eagles bring anywhere from 14,000 to 16,000+, depending on if they are in the original case of issue and if they have been approved by CAC. I think they represent fine value for the new collector who likes big, flashy gold coins with an unsurpassable backstory.
