The 1855-1858 Philadelphia double eagles are all scarce and undervalued issues which are hard to find in properly graded AU53-55 and rare above this.
This is a choice, high end example with very few abrasions and pleasing green-gold surfaces which shade to orange-gold. The obverse is lustrous and has the appearance of a 55 coin; the reverse is a tad less choice.
There are no recent auction records for an AU53 1857 double eagle with CAC approval. A nice non-CAC example is worth in the $2,600-2,800 range.
This is the only 1857 double eagle in AU53 with CAC approval;, 20 finer have been approved as well.
