Repunched 3. This variety is sometimnes mistaken for the 1853/2 but it lacks the die dot below the R in LIBERTY as seen on the so-called overdate.
The 1853 is slightly scarcer than the 1851 and 1852 double eagles and it is harder to find in higher grades.
This bright, lustrous example has a good deal of detail for the grade and it is comparable to examples that I have seen in AU55 holders.
A nice introductory Type One coin at an affordable level.
