Along with the 1852 and 1853, this is one of the more common Philadelphia Type One double eagles. It is not all that hard to find in the EF45 to AU55 range but examples with natural color and choice surfaces are not readily available.
This is a choice, uncleaned piece with nice deep orange-gold and green color. Were it not for some light scuffing in the left obverse field, it would grade AU55 at the very least.
An affordable, pleasing early date from this very popular series.
