The 1848-C is among the more available half eagles from this mint. Collector grade pieces are plentiful but few are as choice and original as this example.
I feel that this coin should be in an EF40 holder as it shows the detail seen on most pieces graded as such. Both sides are richly toned with deep reddish-green hues and there are no detracting marks.
No PCGS VF35 1848-C half eagle has sold since early 2012. A similar quality CAC approved PCGS 40 sold for $2,291 as Legend 2/16: 449.
CAC has approved 2 in this grade with 28 finer.
