GEM SLIDER 1862 THREE DOLLAR GOLD

The 1862 is one of the scarcer Civil War Three Dollar gold pieces and it trails only the 1865 in terms of its overall scarcity. Examples are sometimes seen in the AU58 to MS62 range but most are overgraded and have poor eye appeal as a result of surface issues.

This remarkable Gem slider wouldn't seem out of place in an MS61 holder and I still don't understand where PCGS feels the wear is. It has unmolested satiny surfaces with lovely even medium orange-gold color and there are no marks of note. As on all examples, there are some light mint-made striations on both sides.

A PCGS AU58 with CAC approval sold for $5,900 as DLRC 12/15: 7308.

A great coin which will be of interest to the type collector, Three Dollar specialist or the Civil War gold collector.

CAC has approved 8 in this grade with 10 higher.
