VERY CHOICE PCGS/CACS61 1852-O QUARTER EAGLE

While seemingly available in this grade as per population figures, truly "new" 1852-O quarter eagles are rare. I believe there are around 12-15 in Uncirculated with nearly all in the MS60 to MS62 range.

This frosty example shows no wear and is toned in rich natural green-gold and orange hues. Were it just a bit better struck it would almost certainly grade MS62 and it is clearly a premium quality coin for the date and grade.

Two PCGS/CAC MS61 1852-O quarter eagles have sold at auction in the last two years: this coin (see below for the pedigree) and Stacks Bowers 2015 ANA: 1185 which was bid up to $5,288.

A very nice 1852-O quarter eagle for the advanced collector of New Orleans gold coinage.

CAC has approved 6 in this grade with none finer.

Ex Heritage 10/16: 5460 where it realized $5,875.
