The 1908 is an interesting first year of issue which is often paired with the similarly-dated Liberty Head half eagle to make a neat Transitional set. This borderline Gem is just a few small ticks away from being graded MS65. In my opinion, a nice MS64+ is an excellent value as it is close to a Gem in terms of appearance but you save thousands of dollars relative to an MS65 price.
CAC has approved 114 in MS64 with 54 finer; it is not certain how many are “plus” coins.
