NICE PCGS/CAC MS63 1890-CC HALF EAGLE

The 1890-CC is common in the lowest Uncirculated grades, tough in properly graded and quite rare (and expensive) in MS64. It is many times more difficult to locate in MS63 than the 1891-CC yet it doesn't sell for a significant premium over the "generic" date.

This is a choice, original example with glowing golden-orange coloration over frosty, lightly abraded surfaces. The strike is a touch soft at the centers and this is typical for the issue. The overall appearance is excellent for the date and for the grade.

No PCGS MS63 1890-CC half eagles have sold since a pair went for $5,349 and $5,875 back in 2013; neither of these were CAC approved.

This is a perfect type coin for the collector who would like to own a single high grade half eagle from the legendary Carson City mint and this grade makes more sense than a PCGS MS64 which, if available, would cost in excess of $10,000 and would likely not be significantly choicer than this PCGS/CAC MS63.

CAC has approved 13 in this grade with 5 finer.
