AFFORDABLE COLLECTOR GRADE 1872-CC HALF EAGLE

A total of 16,980 half eagles were made at Carson City in 1872 and this issue saw heavy circulation. Today, around 125 or so are known with many in lower grades.

This is a well-detailed coin for the grade with all letters in LIBERTY full and some feather detail seen on the reverse. The surfaces are free of any problematical marks and there is some deep golden-orange color seen at the borders.

Only one 1872-CC half eagle in PCGS VF20 has sold since March 2010 and it is this exact coin; see pedigree below for more details.

This is an excellent piece for the CC half eagle collector on a budget.

Ex Heritage 1/11: 6922 where it sold for $2,415.
