The 1852-D is one of the more available half eagles from the Dahlonega mint. It is not hard to locate in Choice EF but most seen in these holders have been cleaned and are bright.
This is a really choice coin for the grade with rich natural green-gold color and specks of dirt caked into the lettering. It shows a typical soft strike with little detail seen at the borders but the centers are well defined.
The last two PCGS EF45 1852-D half eagles to sell at auction brought $2,115 and $2,350 in the Heritage 9/16 event. Both were non-CAC.
It is becoming more and more difficult to find choice, original D mint half eagles in this price range.
