The 1858-D is one of the more common half eagles from this mint. It tends to be about as available as the 1859-D and 1860-D in lower grades and is priced at a lower level in spite of this.
This is a pleasing, evenly worn example with good detail for a VF4=30 and pleasing medium russet color. Some weakness of strike can be seen at the borders as on most examples of this date.
Heritage 7/12: 4880, graded VF30 by PCGS, sold for $2,186 but was in an older holder and might have been an upgrade. An NGC VF30, without CAC approval, sold for $1,610 as Heritage 4/12: 6609.
This is one of the nicer Dahlonega half eagles you will find at less than $2,000.
CAC has approved two in this grade with eight finer.
