The 1844-O is the most common No Motto half eagle from this mint in higher grades. There are a few dozen known in Uncirculated, mostly in the MS60 to MS62 range. Properly graded MS63′s are very scarce and MS64′s are quite rare.
This is an especially well struck example from an early die state with full radial lines in each star and very sharp centers. The satiny surfaces are toned in appealing medium russet shades and the marks which are visible are limited to some minor scuffs in the left obverse field.
A less attractive PCGS MS62 sold for $5,875 as Stacks Bowers 3/14: 6223.
This is the best available quality for less than $7,500 and it would make a nice type coin for the collector seeking a choice Uncirculated example of a No Motto half eagle from this popular southern branch mint.
