This is a numismatically significant issue with its status of the final quarter dollar made at this mint; after 1878, the production of silver coins at Carson City was focused on Morgan dollars. The 1878-CC is moderately scarce in Gem with only a few dozen known.
This richly toned Gem shows dusky golden-gray colors on the obverse; the reverse is lighter in hue with some flashes of reddish pastels at the lower border. A few scuffs in the central right obverse field are the only marks worthy of note.
A PCGS MS65 with CAC approval sold for $4,113 as Heritage 4/13: 1977. Over the course of the last decade, MS65′s have appeared at auction at a rate of around one per year.
Here is a perfect type coin for the collector who would like to own a really outstanding Seated Quarter from the Carson City mint.
